He moved to Los Angeles, California, where he became the editor of Tango Reporter. Groppa began drawing at an early age, pursued studies in drawing and architecture, and later worked in the film industry, creating animated shorts. He contributed articles to various publications, directed early television series, and wrote screenplays. In addition to his literary work, he researched and published on the influence of tango music in the U.S.
