Changuito, born José Luis Quintana on January 18, 1948, in Casablanca, Cuba, is a renowned Cuban percussionist known for co-creating the Cuban salsa style. He joined the band Los Van Van in 1970, playing a vital role in developing the Cascara and Songo styles. His primary instrument is the timbales, but he is also skilled with drum set, congas, bongos, and various hand percussion instruments. In 1992, he recorded under his name and became a sought-after percussion teacher in Cuba, teaching notable musicians like Giovanni Hidalgo. He recorded in the USA in 1996.
