Charu Majumdar (1918) was a prominent Indian Maoist communist leader known for his patriotic and progressive views. He abandoned his university studies in 1936 to join the Indian National Congress, later shifting to the Communist Party of India. Majumdar played a significant role in organizing poor peasants during the 1946 famine. He was involved in violent clashes with large landowners, which shaped his revolutionary ideas. He was imprisoned twice, first in 1948 for three years and again in 1962 for his opposition to the Nehru government, coinciding with a Sino-Indian conflict.
