Claire Lucille Parkinson is an American climate scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, known for her contributions to the understanding of polar ice and polar oceans through satellite and balloon-based measurements. She leads the Aqua satellite project under NASA's Earth Observing System. Born in 1948, she earned her mathematics degree from Wellesley College and a Ph.D. in Geography and Climatology from Ohio State University. Parkinson is also engaged in historical science issues and civil rights. She is a member of several prestigious scientific academies and has received multiple honors, including the Roger Revelle Medal.
