Cristina Rivera Garza is a Mexican writer born on October 1, 1964, in Matamoros. She is a professor at the University of Houston's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. She is especially recognized for her novel 'No One Will See Me Cry' (1999), described by Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes as one of the most notable works of fiction in non-Mexican literature in Spanish at the turn of the century. Garza has received several awards, including the Anna Seghers Prize for Latin American Literature in 2005 and the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize.
