Dan Shechtman is an Israeli materials scientist known for his discovery of quasicrystals. Born on January 24, 1941, in Tel Aviv, he received his Ph.D. from the Technion in 1972. Shechtman served on the faculty at Technion and later at Iowa State University. His groundbreaking research earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2011. He has also held significant roles in various academic and research institutions. He is married to Tsipyra Shechtman, and they have four children, including a son studying physics and daughters with doctoral degrees in psychology.
