David Bowen (1940-2011) was a British neurologist noted for his neurochemical research on Alzheimer's disease. He was the first in his family to attend university, studying chemistry and microbiology at the University of Reading before earning his doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh. After working at the University of Michigan, he joined the world's first neurochemistry department at the Institute of Neurology in London in 1970. Despite a heart attack in 1993 that forced him into retirement, he continued publishing work on Alzheimer's until 2008.
