David Edward Rumsey (1939-2017) was an influential Australian organist and composer. He was born in Sydney and trained at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he later taught. After studying in Europe, he returned to Australia and served as artistic director of the first Adelaide organ festival in 1968. Rumsey married twice, first to Christa Brosch, with whom he had two daughters, and later to Elizabeth Jones. In 2000, he moved to Basel, Switzerland, where he lived until his death in 2017.
