Known for his rhythmic compositions and fingering techniques, he founded the Vadya Vani Gurukula for training in Mardala. He has accompanied numerous Odissi music recitals and dancers internationally. Swain is celebrated for elevating the Mardala as a solo instrument, earning accolades including the Badyashree title and the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi awards in 2008 and 2013.
