Dionel M. Aviles is a former United States Under Secretary of the Navy, serving from October 2004 to May 2009. Born in Bryan, Texas, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1983 and served as a surface warfare officer before retiring in 1988. Aviles held various roles in defense budgeting and finance, including staff member on the House Armed Services Committee. He was nominated by President George W. Bush as Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Financial Management in 2001 and then became Under Secretary in 2004.
