Donald John MacDonald was a Scottish war poet, philosopher, and folklorist born on February 7, 1919, in Peninerine, South Uist. He spent most of his life on South Uist, apart from the years he was imprisoned in a German POW camp during the war. MacDonald is noted for evolving out of the Bardic tradition to become a significant figure in Gaelic poetry, deserving a place among the greatest names of the genre. He passed away on October 2, 1986, in Glasgow, Scotland.
