Drago Štajnberger, born Adolf Steinberger, was a Croatian-Jewish Partisan and a prominent People's Hero of Yugoslavia. Born on 15 February 1916 in Zagreb, he joined the Young Communist League and fought in the Spanish Civil War. After returning to Yugoslavia, he organized first Partisan units during World War II. Captured by Italian fascists with fellow fighters in early 1942, he was killed by Chetniks. He was posthumously declared a People's Hero on 27 July 1942. His remains were found in 1966 and buried in a common grave in Plaški.
