He excelled as a high school player at Alexander Hamilton High School, averaging 29 points per game, before transferring to Boys and Girls High School where he earned McDonald's and Parade All-American honors. Davender played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats and was drafted by the Washington Bullets as the 60th overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft, although he never played professionally. He later faced legal troubles and was convicted in a ticket scam before passing away on April 28, 2016.
