Ed Samples (1921–1991) was a pioneering American stock car driver known for competing in NSCRA and NASCAR during the 1940s and 1950s. He won the inaugural stock car racing championship in 1946 and the NSCRA championship in 1949. Samples, a former moonshine runner, switched to racing after being inspired by a fellow moonshiner. He was a prominent competitor in early stock car circuits and retired in 1956 after running a speed shop in Atlanta. Samples was later inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport.
