Edmund Tompkins DeJarnette, Jr. (1938–2015) was a distinguished American diplomat who served in various roles including U.S. Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Tanzania, and Angola. A graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, he began his career in the Foreign Service after working with the Peace Corps. While in Angola, he notably presided over the U.S. delegation during peace talks amid civil conflict. DeJarnette later founded the U.S.-Africa Energy Association and worked as a lawyer post-retirement. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 77.
