Edward A. Dowey Jr. (February 21, 1918 - May 8, 2003) was a prominent American Calvin scholar. Born in Philadelphia, he earned his Bachelor of Arts from Lafayette College in 1940, followed by a Bachelor of Divinity from Princeton University in 1943, and a Master's degree from Columbia four years later. A noted scholar of the Protestant Reformation, he served as an emeritus professor of Christian doctrine at Princeton Theological Seminary. His work, particularly 'The Knowledge of God in Calvin’s Theology' published in 1952, is considered a key introductory text on John Calvin. He joined Princeton faculty in 1957, becoming the Archibald Alexander Professor in 1982.
