Eric Cowley Saville (1922-1943) was a notable South African flying ace during World War II, credited with 8 aerial victories. He was born in Eshowe, Natal, and educated at Durban High School. Saville joined the Permanent Force of the South African Air Force in 1941, becoming a flight commander in 112 Squadron by 1942. His distinguished service earned him a DFC and a subsequent bar for additional heroics. He was the commander of 260 Squadron before being shot down over Italy in September 1943, and subsequently buried in Naples War Cemetery.
