Ernst Peter Berghaus, born on May 23, 1949, in Essen, is a former triathlon organizer, triathlete, coach, and running event organizer. Inspired by his friend Wolfgang Krämer's stories from the 1981 Ironman Hawaii, he organized Germany's first triathlon in Essen in 1982. The event featured swimming, cycling, and running, attracting 48 participants. Berghaus has competed in various duathlon and triathlon events, serving as a coach for notable athletes. Currently retired, he also organizes local running events in Essen and formerly worked in sales after training as a plumber.
