Erwin F. Evert (February 13, 1940 - June 17, 2010) was an American botanist and self-taught naturalist. He discovered five new species of the Apiaceae family in Wyoming. In 1984, he co-authored an article in 'Arctic & Alpine Research' on the only known Palsa fern in the United States. Tragically, Evert died during a botanical expedition when he had a fatal encounter with a grizzly bear along Kitty Creek in Shoshone National Park, Wyoming, where he resided in Park Ridge, Illinois at the time.
