She was a strong advocate for women's rights and fought against femicides in Ciudad Juárez. In 1993, she co-founded the Grupo 8 de marzo, a movement focused on defending women's rights along the U.S. border, which notably documented the murders of women and girls in the region. In 1999, she established Casa Amiga, a crisis center for women experiencing violence.
