Evelyn Perpetua Owens was an influential Irish Labour Party politician and trade union activist. Born on January 22, 1931, in Clontarf, she advocated for equal pay and became the first woman president of the Irish Local Government Officials' Union in 1967. Owens was elected to Seanad Éireann and served as deputy speaker from 1973 to 1977. She later chaired the Labour Court from 1994 to 1998. Owens contributed to multiple organizations, including the Council for the Status of Women. She passed away on September 26, 2010, but left a lasting legacy.
