Fernando Toro, born on January 31, 1941, is a retired Thoroughbred horse racing jockey originally from Santiago, Chile. He gained recognition as one of Southern California's top jockeys in the 1970s and '80s. Toro began his career in 1956 in Chile and later moved to the United States in 1966, where he secured a remarkable total of 3,555 wins before retiring in 1990. His notable achievements include winning the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in 1975 and riding Royal Heroine to victory in the 1984 Breeders' Cup Mile. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023.
