Frank Peak Akers was an American naval rear admiral and the first aviator to develop landing equipment for aircraft carriers. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1922 and became a pilot in 1925. During WWII, he served as a navigator on the USS Hornet and participated in major battles. Akers contributed to radar technology post-war and commanded the USS Saratoga, where he set a world record for carrier landings. He received the Gray Eagle Award for his exceptional flight hours while in service until his retirement in 1963.
