Franko 'Frengi' Simatović is a former Serbian intelligence officer of Croatian descent, born on April 1, 1950. He served as the commander of the Special Operations Unit (JSO) within the Yugoslav State Security Service from 1991 to 1998. Simatović is being tried alongside former State Security Service chief Jovica Stanišić at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia for war crimes committed during the Croatian War of Independence and the Bosnian War from 1991 to 1995. He was initially acquitted in 2013, but this verdict was overturned in 2015, and a retrial began in 2017.
