Franz Loogen was a German cardiologist born on April 13, 1919, in Baesweiler near Aachen and died on September 3, 2010, in Düsseldorf. He is recognized as a pioneer of cardiac catheterization and a founding father of cardiology as an independent specialty in internal medicine in Germany. Loogen held the first cardiology chair outside of pediatrics in the Federal Republic and established the 'Düsseldorf Cardiological School,' which has produced many prominent cardiologists. Additionally, he served as the team doctor for the German national football team during the 1954 World Cup.
