Gennady Kovalev, born on October 10, 1945, in the former Soviet Union, is a retired Soviet biathlete. He initially started as a cross-country skier before transitioning to biathlon in the early 1970s. A prominent member of the Soviet national team from 1970 to 1975, he was a world champion in 1973 and the individual vice-champion in the 20 km event. Kovalev served in the Russian Army, was awarded for his service, and later became involved in coaching, directing sports clubs, and youth biathlon training.
