Gerson dos Santos Peres was a Brazilian politician, lawyer, and journalist born on May 2, 1931, in Cametá, Pará. He studied Law at the Federal University of Pará and worked as a journalist before entering politics. His political career began in 1958 as a deputy in the Pará legislative assembly. He served as the state's Vice-Governor from 1979 to 1982 and was a federal deputy from 1983 to 2003 and again from 2007 to 2011. Peres passed away on April 21, 2020, due to complications related to COVID-19.
