Ğilem Qamay (1901-1970) was a Soviet scientist and the first Tatar professor of chemistry. He studied at Tomsk University and Kazan University, mentored by A. E. Arbuzov. Notable for his research in organic phosphorus and arsenic compounds, Qamay published 356 works and held significant positions, including rector of Kazan University. He faced political turmoil, being arrested in 1937 and released in 1939. His legacy includes a memorial in Kazan and a university department named in his honor. Qamay significantly contributed to the field of chemistry with practical applications in industry.
