Gitchandra Tongbra, widely known as G. C. Tongbra, was an influential Indian satirist, poet, playwright, and art academic hailing from Imphal, Manipur. Born on February 6, 1916, he gained recognition for his socio-realistic plays, including notable works such as 'Mani Manou' (1962), 'Matric Pass' (1964), and 'Upu Baksi' (1972). In 1975, he received the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, and four years later, the Sahitya Akademi Award for 'Ngabongkhao' (1978). His legacy was honored with the Tongbra Drama Festival in 2015.
