Gordon Emanuel Cherry (1931–1996) was a prominent British academic known for his research in urban planning, particularly focused on its historical context. He graduated in geography from Queen Mary College in London and worked in various municipal planning departments before joining the University of Birmingham as a lecturer and later a professor. Cherry was instrumental in founding the Planning History Group, which evolved into the International Planning History Society. He authored several notable publications on urban planning. He was married in 1957 and had three children.
