Gösta Karpe was a Swedish ophthalmologist and professor born on April 24, 1908, in Vadstena. He graduated from the Karolinska Institute, obtaining his doctorate in 1945 and becoming a professor in 1949. His research contributed to the clinical application of electroretinography, establishing his influence in the field. He served as the president of the International Society for Clinical Electroretinography from 1958 to 1973 and held a position in the Nobel Assembly from 1949 to 1974. Karpe was married twice and had several children.
