He played a significant role in the safe air evacuation of 170,000 Indians from Kuwait during the Gulf War in 1990, marking the largest civilian evacuation in history. Vedi, along with Mathoni Matthews and many other Indians in Kuwait, contributed to breaking the world record for this operation.
