VanDerveer's coaching career includes significant roles at Tennessee under Pat Summitt, the WNBA with teams like the Sacramento Monarchs and Minnesota Lynx, and various positions at colleges including Occidental College. She has a master's degree in physical education and sports psychology from the University of Tennessee.
