Helmut Schliesing is a former German politician and educator born on May 18, 1953, in Brandenburg an der Havel. He studied biology and chemistry, worked as a teacher, and earned his doctorate in 1988. A founding member of the SDP in 1989, he became the first freely elected mayor of Brandenburg (Havel) in 1990, serving until 2002 and overseeing significant municipal developments. After his political career, he managed the Clinic Service Center and led the Medical School of the Klinikum until 2018. Schliesing resides in Rietz, Kloster Lehnin.
