Herbert Walther (January 19, 1935 - July 22, 2006) was a prominent German physicist known for his contributions to quantum optics and laser physics. He served as the founding director of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching near Munich, Germany. Additionally, he held the position of head of the physics department at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His work significantly influenced the field of quantum optics.
