Hiroyuki Okabe (January 17, 1931 - December 29, 2023) was a prominent Japanese science fiction translator and a member of the Japan Authors Association. He worked under the pen name Takayuki Sugiyama. After graduating from Shizuoka University in 1953, he became known for translating notable works in the genre, including Heinlein's 'Starship Troopers' and Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series. He retired from translation after working on the first three volumes of the Martin series. Okabe also published a poetry collection titled 'Rainy Season.'
