Hiu Torikai is a Japanese novelist born on March 6, 1960, in Fukuoka Prefecture. His real name is Hisahiro Torikai. He graduated from the Department of Biology at Kyushu University and worked as an editor before relocating to Amami Oshima in April 2000. He served as the fifth president of the non-profit Amami Wild Bird Society and is a member of both the Japanese Ornithological Society and the Japanese Bird Banding Association. Torikai received the Minister of the Environment Award for Environmental Contributions on Greenery Day in 2023.
