Horace Parlan was an American jazz pianist born on January 19, 1931, in Pittsburgh and passed away on February 23, 2017, in Korsør, Denmark. He began performing in various R&B bands in the early 1950s and recorded his first album as a leader, 'Movin' & Groovin',' in 1960 under Blue Note Records. Settling in Denmark in the early 1970s, he received the Ben Webster Prize in 2000. Throughout his career, Parlan collaborated with notable musicians such as Archie Shepp, Lou Donaldson, and Charles Mingus.
