Hristo Marinov was a Bulgarian geographer and professor, born on January 5, 1921. He graduated in geography from Sofia University in 1945 and became a doctor of geography in 1951. Marinov was a pioneer in ecological theories applied to Bulgarian production and was instrumental in optimizing territorial placement of production forces. He founded the Bulgarian Ecological Society in 1985 and the ecoforum in Svishtov. He also co-founded a Slavic university in Bulgaria and served as dean of the ecology faculty. Marinov passed away in 1998.
