Hulusi Akar, born in 1952, is a Turkish politician serving as the Minister of National Defense since July 9, 2018. He previously held the position of Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces from August 7, 2015, to July 9, 2018. He was instrumental in thwarting the 2016 coup attempt against the government. Akar was appointed as Army Commander in 2007 and promoted to full general in 2011. He was honored in 2018 when a mosque in Kayseri was named after him.
