Irina Alimova was a Soviet illegal intelligence officer born on June 16, 1918, in Merv, and died on December 30, 2011, in Moscow. She served in the KGB under the codename 'Bir' and acted in a Turkmen film in 1937. During World War II, she worked as a translator for military censorship. From 1954 to 1966, she operated undercover in Japan, where she formed a partnership and later marriage with fellow agent Shamil Hamzin. She retired as a major in 1967 and was later promoted to colonel.
