İsmail Cem İpekçi was a Turkish diplomat, journalist, writer, photographer, and politician. Born on February 15, 1940, in Istanbul, he served as a member of the Turkish Parliament and was elected as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Active in the Republican People's Party, he contributed to Turkish politics until his passing from lung cancer on January 24, 2007, in the same city where he was born.
