Ivika Kärmik (1942-2020) was an Estonian textile artist born in Rakvere. She studied at the Peterburi Academy of Arts and later at the Moscow Textile Institute. After struggling to find work in Tallinn, she joined the Mistra textile production cooperative, where she began designing carpets. Kärmik was also a co-founder of the Short Jala Gallery and led the Toompea Art Gallery until 2010. Notably, she was the first Estonian textile artist to create a silk carpet using knot techniques in collaboration with China in 2005.
