Jacques Dallest, born on May 2, 1955, in Annecy, is a French magistrate who served as an investigating judge, public prosecutor, and general prosecutor in various courts, including the appeal courts of Chambéry and Grenoble. He has taught law for many years. In July 2019, he was appointed to lead a working group to improve the judicial handling of cold cases, resulting in a report with 25 recommendations submitted in March 2021. Notably, he advocated for creating specialized judicial units for cold cases, leading to the establishment of a national unit in March 2022. He became an honorary magistrate and published a book on unsolved cases in January 2023.
