Jagadish Mohanty (1951–2013) was a prominent Odia writer recognized as a key figure in modern Odia fiction. He won several awards, including the prestigious Sarala Award in 2003 and the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990 for his novel Kanishka Kanishka. Born in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, he spent over 30 years at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. Despite distance from the cultural hub, his contributions significantly impacted Odia literature. He was married to feminist writer Sarojini Sahoo and had two children. Mohanty passed away on December 29, 2013.
