James H. Pomerene (1920-2008) was a prominent American computer engineer known for his work on early computing systems. After earning a degree in electrical engineering from Northwestern University in 1942, he collaborated with John von Neumann on the IAS computer project. He served as Chief Engineer at the Institute for Advanced Study from 1951 to 1956 before joining IBM. Among his contributions, he worked on the Harvest Computer and developed an early form of cache memory. A recipient of multiple awards, he held 37 patents and retired in 1993.
