James Nicholas "Nick" Rowe was a U.S. Army officer born on February 8, 1938, recognized for being one of only 34 American prisoners of war who escaped during the Vietnam War. He developed the SERE training program designed for high-risk military personnel. Colonel Rowe's contributions established important survival techniques for captured soldiers. Unfortunately, he was assassinated by the New People's Army's Alex Boncayao Brigade in the Philippines on April 21, 1989.
