Jan Chmelař was a Roman Catholic priest and political prisoner under the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia. Born on January 31, 1931, in Kletečná, he became involved with the Premonstratensians at a young age. After being imprisoned for opposing the regime, he worked as a laborer and later as a radiology technician. Following the fall of Communism, he resumed theological studies, was ordained a priest in 1999, and served as a parish vicar in Česká Lípa until his death on January 5, 2011. Despite health struggles, he maintained an active pastoral role throughout his life.
