Jan Gustaf Foghelin is a Swedish defense researcher and security policy debater born on March 7, 1944, in Bromma. He earned his civil engineering degree in technical physics from the Royal Institute of Technology in 1968. After working briefly at Ericsson, he joined the Defence Research Establishment (FOA) in 1971 and served until his retirement in 2011. He was head of FOA's defense analysis department from 1990 to 2004 and chaired the Swedish Atlantic Committee from 2008 to 2010. Foghelin has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences since 1987.
