Jan Kazimierz Kochański, also known as Maciej Zubowicz and by nicknames including Jarma, Alojzy, and Maciek, was a lieutenant in the cavalry of the Polish Army and a member of the Cichociemni, an elite unit of soldiers trained to operate in occupied Poland during World War II. Born on February 9, 1914, in Lviv, he met his end in Warsaw on February 16, 1944, during the tumultuous times of the war.
